New Year, New Goals
How many people really follow through when they make resolutions in the New Year? If any of you are regular gym attenders, have you noticed how crowded your gym gets in January and then as January moves into February, it goes back to mostly just the regulars? I know I have! What if instead of making a resolution, we set attainable goals for the entire year?
What is an attainable goal? Many of you may be familiar with SMART goals. Perhaps you use them in performance reviews as you help your staff set goals for the next review period. What if all the goals we set for ourselves were SMART goals?
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Attainable
R - Relevant
T – Timely
Sometimes the reasons our resolutions fail are because they are not specific enough or cannot be measured. Often our expectations are too high and unrealistic. Ask yourself if your goal is relevant to what you are trying to accomplish and whether you have an attainable time frame? It’s not too late to turn your New Year’s resolutions into SMART goals.
Now that we have discussed the ins and outs of SMART goals, what if we also used them for our marketing plans in our centers?
1. Determine the specific goal you are trying to accomplish with your marketing plan. For example, many centers want to ensure abortion-minded women find them.
2. Determine how you will measure progress toward your goal. This can be accomplished through results from Google analytics, Google ads, social media followers, in-house statistics, etc.
3. Be sure that your goal number is attainable and realistic. If your goal is to reach a certain number of abortion-minded women, then look at how many you reached in the previous year before setting your goal.
4. Be sure to give a new marketing effort the time it needs to be successful. When beginning a new marketing plan, we always suggest giving yourself at least a year. You can tweak aspects of it throughout the year if necessary as we work toward helping you reach your center’s goals.
Everything in your marketing plan and any SMART goals associated with it should be relevant to your center’s mission and vision.
